Peter Thomson Plays Remarkable Stroke (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON. June 15. A remarkable left-handed s.roke saved Peter Thomson from disaster in the first round of the "Yorkshire Evening News” £1735 72-hole golf tournament at Moortown, Leeds, today. At the 458 yards third hole, from behind a tree, he sent his third shot 10 yards over the green into long grass underneath a bush. Thomson could not swing his club properly so played the ball left-handed with a sandblaster. x . With superb skill, he extricated the ball on to the green four yards from the flag to enable him to score 3 Fite golfers, with 69 each, tied for the first-round lead—Ramon Sota and Angel Miguel (Spain). Jack Harris (Australia), and Walter Lees and Bernard Hunt (Britain). Harris, plaving in Britain for the first time, had the best outward score on Tuesday. 33. and altogether had seven single putts.
