Sound Trial At Wingatui “The Press’' Special Service DUNEDIN. June 16. Sound trials by the Oamaru Cup candidates. Matlock and Panel, and a smart sprint by Mary Dee were features of the gallops at Wingatui this morning. The work was held up by a heavy frost. The only track in use was the plough. Matlock, ridden by his race-day jockey, R. J. Skelton, made a bold showing to run the last six of his seven-furlong workout in Imin 22 3-ssec, the final half-mile in 55 3-ssec, and the concluding three furlongs in 42 3-ssec. He appears to have done well since his sprint racing at the Dunedin meeting and will be one of the best supported runners in the Oamaru winter Cup. Panel (L. W. Hare) advanced in favour for the cup when she worked three lengths clear of her stablemate, Fine Note (J. D. Panckhurst). at the end of seven furlongs in Imfn 36 2-ssec. Panel ran the last half-mile in 56sec, and the final three furlongs in 43sec and did it well. She was one of the most consistent runners over the three days of the Riverton Easter meeting and with a track to suit at Oamaru she could return to her best form.

Cornflake (J. R. Dowling) was accompanied by his stable-mates, Blooming (R. Pledger) and Irrepressible (L. W. Hare), over five furlongs in imin Bsec. the last three furlongs in 42 3-ssec. ' Dowling will ride Cornflake in the Oamaru Cup. Mary Dee (G. Foster) showed speed to dash over half a mile in 53sec after taking 13 l-ssec for the opening furlong. The Callander mare will revert to sprinting in the Grange Handicap, the second leg of the Oamaru double. Royaloil (R. J. Skelton) and Mighty Robin (A. I. Powell) finished on terms in 54 2-ssec, the first furlong in 13 2-ssec, and this time was equalled by Golden Miller (J. Wells) and Pine Bush (C. Campbell). Eila (F. Henneberry) ran out a solid half-mile in 53 3-ssec, the last three furlongs in 41sec. Black Star (J, D. Panckhurst) was not out for time in 55 3-ssec. the last three furlongs in 41 2-ssec. H. A. Anderton’s team did not work until the afternoon.
