FURTHER DEVELOPMENT AT CITY AIRPORT
Further development of Christchurch airport is being pushed ahead at a fast pace. At present there are six contractors hard at work on different projects and yet another batch of works will soon be put in hand. Contracts now in force for major works are held with the City Council, the Civil Aviation Administration, the National Airways Corporation and the United States Navy. .. , . . A - new stores building is being erected for the National Airways Corporation and plans for a new administration block are reported to be well advanced. Hangar alterations are pending to meet the added space requirements for the Fokker aircraft fleet due to begin arriving in New Zealand later this year. Contracts have recently been
awarded by the United States Navy for additional stores and maintenance facilities and for additional staff accommodation. The Civil Aviation Adminiatration has a new stand-by power plant under construction. The administration is also developing a new technical workshops area and the City Council is develop, ing a new maintenance facility. The new freight handling combining an underground hydrant fuelling system, is nearing completion. The traffic roundabout and tn* trance lay-out is well advanced. Plans for a new motor vehicle parking area have been completed and it is hoped tenders win *be called in the near future for ifr preparation.
