WALK-OUT AT GENEVA
“Action In Accord With F.O.L. Policy” (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 15. The action of the New Zealand workers’ delegate (Mr P. H. Weith) and his adviser (Mr E C. Blaker) along with the workers’ representatives from 25 member countries, including Canada, in walking out of the International Labour Office conference when the South African Secretary of Labour (Mr J. F. Hannah) took the rostrum to speak, was in accord with the considered policy of the New Zealand Federation of Labour, said the secretary (Mr K. M. Baxter) today. Mr Baxter said that on July 6. last year, the Federation of Labour national executive published a statement "strongly opposing racial discrimination in every form."
The view of the federation was that the outlook of the South African Government could only be broadened by bringing home to them, through economic pressure, realisation of the fact that the civilised world would not condone brutal action against human beings, he said.
