APPLICATION OF BAN
North Canterbury Not Affected
The ban on the loading out of meat from freezing works is not affecting the operation of North Canterbury freezing works because there is no shipping at Lyttelton to take meat, but a spokesman for two companies which have works in North Canterbury said last evening that the ban would be applicable to their works. A spokesman for the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company said that the ban would be applicable at all three of its works in Canterbury. Its works are at Belfast, Fairfield, and Pareora. No meat, he said, had been loaded out since the ban came into force on Wednesday. Thomas Borthwick and Sons (Australasia), Ltd., is also aware that the ban is applicable to its works at Belfast.
Spokesmen for these companies said that the procedure was for the union branch to notify the works management when a directive of this nature came from Wellington. A spokesman for the New Zealand Refrigerating Company said that at Islington the question of a ban on loading out had not yet arisen as there had been no loading out, but he presumed that it was applicable to all works. This spokesman said he understood that meat loaded out before the ban came into force was not affected.
