NURSE MAUDE APPEAL

£2500 Collected Yesterday

A total of £2500 was collected yesterday in the annual street appeal of the Nurse Maude Association. said the secretary of the association (Mr C. B P Johnstone) last evening. It was £5OO more than was collected in a similar appeal last .year. More than 400 volunteers collected in the streets yesterday including one man who aroused considerable interest by his unusual attire of a beggar. There were two stalls in the city, selling given meat and produce. Between them they collected £2OO.

“We have had a much better day this year than we had last year for the appeal.” said Mr Johnstone. “There has been a steady flow of money coming in. and the six of us who were counting it. were kept particularly busy. The response this year has been generous, and we are very pleased with the public’s support,” he added, "and extremely grateful to the people who have helned us.” z Mr Johnstone said that the money would be used mainly for the association’s nursing work in Christchurch.
