Elegant Dresses At Law Ball
The elegant frocking of the women guests was a feature of the Law Ball held at the Winter Garden in Christchurch last evening. The ball was held by the Law Students’ Society of the University of Canterbury for law students, legal practitioners and employees of legal firms. Those in the official party included the following:— Mr Justice Adams; Mr Justice Macarthur and Mrs Macarthur; Mr Justice Richmond and Mrs Richmond; Mr A. P. Blair, S.M., and Mrs Blair; the Chancellor of the University of Canterbury (Mr C. H. Perkins) and Mrs Perkins; the dean of the Law Faculty at the University of Canterbury (Professor H. R. Gray) and Mrs Gray; the president of the Canterbury District Law Society (Mr W. K. L. Dougall) and Mrs Dougall; the president of the Public Accountants’ Association (Mr C. L. Sugden) and Mrs Sugden; the president of the Canterbury division of the British Medical Association (Mr Rex Blunden) and Mrs Blunden. A full-skirted black velvet gown was worn by Mrs Richmond. It featured a wide guipure lace panel at the front and with it she wore a white fur stole. Mrs Macarthur wore a floor-length gown of deep rose chiffon. It was full-skirted with a draped bodice and a matching stole. Members of the committee who were hosts to more than 600 guests at the ball, were:— Messrs C. R. Harman (president), D. J. Hill, R. L. Kerr, I. Cochrane, I. C. Polson, J. G. Richardson and W. I. Hooker.
