Conference Gets Inquiry Reports
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright)
LONDON, June 2. As a result of disasters to two ships in New Zealand, recommendations to improve safety conditions in similar vessels are being considered by the international conference on the safety of life at sea in London, said the Minister of Marine (Mr Fox) before leaving for Geneva. He said the full report of the committee of inquiry into the loss of the Holmglen with all hands off Timaru last November had been made available to the conference. Recommendations of the committee on the stability of similar vessels would also be discussed by the conference. It was also considering a committee’s safety recommendations after a fire in the Holmbum at Lyttelton, when two lives were lost.
Mr Fox is now attending a conference of the International Labour Organisation before visiting Italy.
