Van Rush Injured
Van Rush, the early favourite for the Durbar Handicap, the first leg of the double on the opening day of the Ashburton Trotting Club’s winter meeting today, injured himself slightly when galloping in a paddock on Thursday, and he will have to miss the race. Van Rush, a member of C. C. Devine's Templeton team, is a four-year-old gelding by Van Dieman from Gold Strike. He was unbeaten in his last three starts, the most recent of which was at Forbury Park last month Van Rush will not race again until next season, when it is expected he will develop worthwhile staying form.
