CHIEF GENERAL SCRATCHED
Hack Sprint At Wingatui
"The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN. June 2,
Chief General is a scratching in the Brighton Handicap and this will bring Wandering Willie into favour for the first leg of the Dunedin on-course double. There is nothing wrong with Chief General and he may race later at the meeting. The scratching of Bodkin in the Trial Stakes allows Kumai to reenter the field. Mozart had been scratched from the Tahuna Steeplechase and will start in the Otago Steeplechase, in which his rider will be H. J. Ford.
Callevo is out of the Birthday Handicap. Cassock Rose and Last Link have been withdrawn from the St. Clair Handicap. Topa did not make the trip and will also miss the St. Clair Handicap. The Riccarton trainer, R. Preece, said that Fair Chase travelled badly and is an unlikely starter in the Trial Stakes.
