Two N.Z. Men Win At Manchester
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MANCHESTER, May 31. The New Zealand Davis Cup pair, M. Otway and L. Gerrard, won their singles matches comfortably today at the northern lawn tennis tournament. Results included :
Men's Singles.—Third round: M. Davies (Britain) beat R. Clark (NewZealand). 6-3, 6-0; A. Licis (Poland) beat R. Dibley (New Zealand). 6-3. 6-3; R. Hewitt beat R. Hawke (NewZealand), 6-1, 6-2; M. A. Otway beat C. G. Judge (New Zealand), 6-1, 6-0: L. A. Gerrard beat A. Linforth (Britain), 6-1, 6-0. Yesterday, Otway beat the Earl of Mexborough, 6-1, 6-1. "My family says I am quite mad about tennis—and they are quite right,” said the thin, bespectacled Earl, after being beaten by Otway. Lord Mexborough enters for tournament after tournament all over England—and laughingly agrees he never gets anywhere. As Otway made him chase—and miss—balls all over the court Lord Mexborough cried loudly to himself: "You fool, you fool!"
