DELAYS IN MEAT SHIPMENTS
Mr A. P. O’Shea Urges Better Port Facilities
(New Zealand Press AMoctatton, GISBORNE, June 1.
“There has been a complete ‘gum-up’ in meat shipments this year and the slow turn-round of ships on the New Zealand coast has a lot to do with it,” Mr A. P. O’Shea, Dominion secretary, told Gisborne Federated Farmers today. Mr O’Shea said that completion of the Bluff harbour scheme would contribute to an improvement. He suggested delays would be less likely if port facilities could handle exports faster. “It seems ridiculous that we should be spending huge sums in establishing other industries when the money could provide 24-hour loading facilities for exports at our main ports,” he said.
