N.Z.-AUSTRALIAN TRADE

Commissioner Predicts Increase

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 31.

An increased amount of timber, newsprint, woodpulp, and frozen fish would be exported to Australia in the future, said Mr R. V. Jackson, senior New Zealand Government Trade Commissioner in Australia, when he arrived in Auckland in the Monowai today. “On the other hand,” said Mr Jackson, “Australian exports to New Zealand will also increase, because of the lessening of import restrictions.” He said that the balance of trade remained roughly the same.

Mr Jackson said that New Zealand pine timber was meeting increased competition with Oregon pine in Australia. “We are having to apply continual sales pressure to sell our pine in some parts of Australia.” he said. The trade mission to Australia last year was beginning to show some positive results, he said.
