New Zealand markets for small seeds haye been very firm, local values being above United Kingdom parity. As a result many merchants in the United Kingdom have held off buying new crop seeds, while others have made limited purchases of white clovers, Sales of white clover for spring sowing cleared the stocks in April, and a small trade was reported in mother seed at 4905-500 s 500s c.i.f., states the London office of the Bank of New Zealand in its" 1 market review. Since the beginning of May, however, prices have risen to over 500 s. with limited business at 5155. Sellers are now asking 5255-5305. More sales have been recorded in permanent pasture white, and following business in April at 4655-4705, c.ij., later sales took place at 4755-4905. Now 500 s is being aisked. In the ryegrass market, mother perennial sold at 150s-155s in April, but since , then sellers have asked 170-172 s 6d c.i.f., while р. is quoted at 1655-167 s 6d H.I. short rotation ryegrasses met a good demand last month . for prompt shipment, but with a strong market in New Zealand and limited supplies, offers have risen to 2055-210 s for mother seed, with standard grade quoted at 200 s. Certified brown top from New Zealand is quoted at up to 5755. с. and requirements are confined to small quantities at the higher price. Crested dogstail has met a small demand from United Kingdom buyers, with quotations at 3705-375 s from New Zealand sellers. There have been sales at 3605-365 s c.i.f. In Liverpool, where large stocks of maple peas are still held, No 1 New Zealand maples are offered at 50s a cwt ex warehouse. In London some sellers are prepared to take 495-49 s 6d c.i.f.
