ROLLER SKATING RINK
Big Project Starting In Dunedin "The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN, June 1. One of the largest outdoor roller skating rinks in New Zealand will be built in Dunedin on the site of the tennis courts at St. Hilda. Work will start on the site next week-end, and it is proposed to have the rink completed in two months. Permission has been granted by the Ocean Beach Domain Board for the rink. Costing £l5OO, the rink will be constructed in stages. The secretary of the Otago Amateur Roller Skating Club (Mr John Campbell) said that it was hoped a grant towards the construction would be made by the Government, and an appeal had been made to business firms in Dunedin for donations. The building will contain boys* and girls* clubrooms, showers, an office, a’ skate room and other amenities. The two clubrooms will have a removable partition, enabling dances and film evenings to be held.
The club membership is 150 active and about 300 non-active members. Dunedin is one of the strongholds of roller hockey in New Zealand.
