Korea
Sir, —Events occurring in Korea impel one to contemplate the change ot “face and fortune” of Syngman Rhee, who. up to the last week or so enjoyed the proud distinction of being the predominant figure in Korean politics He was the central and focal point in the Korean war and was the personification ot all that was correct and democratic in the eyes of those who went to his aid in that tragic event. The embarrassment to his American and other supporters, who made his leadership and domination financially possible must be considerable. The trust imposed in their clay-footed idol, a man nurtured in their own circle, casts a grave reflection on their conception of democracy. The rectification of the Korean situation may commence now that Rhee’s sponsors imply that his conduct leaves much to be desired, and that they are frankly dissatisfied with his interpretation of democracy.—Yours, etc., D.H.C. April 28. 1960.
