Auckland gained a convincing victory in the inter-district golf tournament held at the Grange course over the week-end. The first Auckland players, W. J. Godfrey, R. R. Newdick, B. P. Vezich and N. V. Edwards, were all undefeated, and in all three matches laid firm foundations in their side’s endeavours to retain the Garrard trophy. The scores were:—First round: Auckland, 10 matches. Northland 2; Waikato 11, Bay of Plenty 1. Second round: Auckland 7j, Waikato 4J; Northland 7, Bay of Plenty 5. Third round: Auckland Bi, Bay of Plenty 3j; Waikato 9, Northland 3.

Teams For Freyberg Rose Bowl v (New Zeatana Press Association, AUCKLAND, May 1. Three Freyberg Rose Bowl golf teams, Auckland, Northland and Waikato, were announced today. Nelson-Marlborough Area “Sportsman Of Year”

(New Zealand Press Association) NELSON, May 1. The "Nelson Evening Mail’s” sports edition’s “sportsman of the year” award for the NejsonMarlborough area was made today to G. Bartlett, Marlborough’s fast bowler who represented New Zealand against the Australian cricket team this season. Excellence awards were made to J. Trathen (Nelson), New Zealand junior sprint champion: G. Lowans (Nelson), Central Districts cricketer and a Nelson soccer representative, and G. Hocquard (Pelorous Sound) a champion axeman, who achieved success in Australia recently.

Mr Mason 111 (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. May 1. The Attorney-General and Minister of Health (Mr Mason) is confined to his home with influenza. Mr Mason’s indisposition prevented him flying to Nelson on Saturday to open the new Barbara Taylor nurses’ home, which has been completed at a cost of £473,000. Mr S. A.
