„ DUNEDIN, May 1. Rojo, after breaking and finishing near the rear in the Bayfield Handicap. scored a narrow decision in the Dunedin Handicap, the feature event for trotters at the Forbury Park Trotting Club's meeting on Saturday. Rojo had a clear lead at the furlong but he had to be driven right out to hold off Whirlwind and Estelle in a blanket finish. Rojo moved up to join Kaboon and Sure Maggie with a round to go, where Dagwood, Billy Again and Bonny Wings were in the second line ahead of Whirlwind. Heather Walla and Cat’s Luck.

Rojo and Bonny Wings led into the straight. Rojo soon passed Bonny Wings and appeared to be in for a clear win, but Whirlwind and Estelle came borne fast.

Bandsaw caused an upset in the Bayfield Handicap when he led all the wav to win by half a length from Fallacious with the wellsupported Dark Lorene coming home fast for third place a length and a half back.

Bandsaw had his last success at Waimate in December, and he was placed twice at the recent Waikouaiti meeting. The Ripcord mare was driven by his Waikouaiti trainer. D. C Marsh. He was thirteenth favourite and paid £5l 9s 6d for a win.

Bandsaw made a smart beginning and with five furlongs to run was three lengths clear of Spotless with two lengths to Fallacious, ahead of Our Jimmy, Victory. Kennoway. Brigadier Scott. Clackmannan. Andys Double and Misty. which broke near the half-mile. Spotless had reduced the gap to half a length at the home turn, where Brigadier Scott, Fallacious Kennoway. Our Jimmy and Clackmannan were handiest of the remainder and Dark Lorene was Improving. Bandsaw held off Fallacious, with Dark Lorene running on for third. Kennoway was only a nose away fourth, with the weakening favourite. Spotless, fifth. Baron was fourth. Times—3min 19 l-ssec. 3min 19 2-ssec. 3min 19 4-ssec. Dividends—Win: £6 Ils.
