CALF SALE AT STUDHOLME
(From Out Own Reporter) WAIMATE, April 28. About 600 head were offered to buyers from Ashburton to Balclutha at a calf sale held at Studholme Junction. , , At the opening of the sale values were lower by 60s to 80s on recent values, but as bigger and more attractive lines came forward values improved and for quality the decline in price was negligible. A pen of Aberdeen Angus-Here-ford cross calves realised £27 and another line of mainly polled Shorthorn steer calves made £2o ss. , The following is a range of prices: Best Aberdeen Angus cross steer calves, to £27; good, £2O to £23; medium, £l4 to £l7; and small. £8 to £lO 10s; best Aberdeen Angus cross heifer calves, £l4 to £l6; others, £lO to £l2; best Aberdeen Angus steer calves. £l7 to £2O; others, £l4 to £l6; best Aberdeen Angus heifer calves, £l4 to £l7; medium, £ll to £l3; and small, £9 to £lO 10s. Best polled Shorthorn steer calves, to £25 ss; best Shorthorn steer calves, £l7 to £2O ss: medium, £l3 to £l5; and small, £lO to £l2; best Shorthorn heifer calves, £l2 to £l6; and others, £9 10s to £11; Belted Galloway cross steer calves. £l7.
State Borrowing.— At March 31
this year net Government indebtedness to the Reserve Bank was £67m. This represents a drop of £35.1m in a month, but is still £34.3m above the figure for March 31, 1959.
