FISHERMAN DROWNED
Stepped Into Deep Water (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 29. A man was drowned while spearing flounder in the Aotea harbour, near Raglan, late last night. He was: Peter Nicol, aged 31, married, with one child, of Te Pahu. Mr Nicol was with two friends, Desmond Strong and Hans Derikye, both of Te Pahu. In the dark Mr Nicol and Mr Strong stepped into deep water. Mr Strong was in difficulties when he heard Mr Derikye calling to him. He struggled in the direction of his voice and Mr Derikye helped him ashore. Mr Nicol disappeared.
Hamilton and Raglan police found the body of Mr Nicol tonight.
