An outspoken opponent of South Africa’s racial policy, Bishop Reeves said he left South Africa because he believed he was about to be “silenced” by being arrested under the Emergency Regulations. He would return to Johannesburg when be received a “reasonable assurance” that he would not be arrested or detained.
