Neil Patrick Crow, the man-aging-director of a car sales firm, said that he sold the accused's car on his behalf for £l6O. Repairs to the motor for the windscreen wiper cost £2 and he paid Wells a cheque for £l5B. Wells had made no mention of the fact that the car was subject to a hire-purchase agreement. Wells said he did not know it was wrong to do what he had done as he intended to keep up the payments to the finance company.
