Experiments At Seddon College (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 26. The first steps in the proposed television-in-schools experiment were taken with the visit to Auckland of Mr H. W. Sayers, senior inspector of post-primary schools. , Mr Sayers has been placed in charge of the Education Department project to experiment with television teaching. Mr Sayers spent some time at Seddon Memorial Technical College the school selected in Auckland for the experiment. He made a detailed examination of the equipment in use at the college for its television broadMr R. B. Waddell, head of the science department at the college, who is in charge of television experiments there, explained the equipment to Mr Sayers and gave demonstrations of closed-circuit television. Mr Sayers said his first visit to the college was purely exploratory. He was discussing with Mr Waddell the form the experiment would take and how to use the equipment. He also discussed to what extent closed-circuit television using coaxial cable would be used. It was even possible the IYA transmitter could be used, said Mr Sayers. The experiment was designed to see how effective television teaching would be. It would also help to train teachers to take their part when television came to the country. Mr Sayers also had talks with the principal of the college. Mr H. M. Scott, and the district superintendent of education, Mr L. le F. Ensor.
