DOMINION LEGAL CONFERENCE
American Lawyer’s Tribute (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 26. A tribute to the legal profession of New Zealand and the “masterly way” in which the recent Dominion legal conference was conducted in Wellington was paid by a prominent American lawyer, Mr Herman Phelger, of San Francisco, shortly before he and Mrs Phlefger left by air for America today. Mr Phleger was the only American delegate at the conference.
“During my visit I have received the highest opinion of the members of your legal profession,” he said. “The attendance alone—nearly 550 —was astonishing and a tribute to the keenness of members of the profession. It would have done credit to many a far larger country. “The papers presented were outstanding for their scholarship and interest, and I was particularly interested in that presented by Mr N. Wilson, Q.C., on ‘A New Look at Legal Education.’ As a trustee of the law school at Stanford University, I found much in it to give me food for thought.”
Motor-Cycle Conversion. A green Ariel motor-cycle taken from Hereford street some time between April 25 and 26 has not been recovered. Its registered number is 27-788 L. A maroon Triumph motor-cycle removed from Bealey avenue between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. on April 25 has also not been found. The number is 55-147.
