RADIATION UNIT IN CITY

U.S. Radiologist’s Praise “The therapeutic facilities for carrying on X-ray radiation therapy at the Christchurch hospital are quite modern and adequate,” said Dr. E. M. Hummon. a visiting American radiologist in an interview in Christchurch “You have a very well equipped radiation unit here.” Dr. Hummon, who is chief radiologist at the Cook County Hospital, near Chicago, Illinois, said he had particularly enjoyed meeting the staff of the Christchurch radiation unit. It had been most interesting and quite different from his own hospital, the largest in the United States. “There we have in all, 34,000 beds,” said Dr. Hummon, “and my department alone uses a staff of 160.” Although purely on a holiday tour of New Zealand, Dr. Hummon said that while in Auckland he would be presenting a paper on “Recent Trends in Radiation Therapy” to the New Zealand Medical Physicists’ Association.
