STRONG TEAM AT RLENHEIM

Riccarton Jockey Engaged

The Riccarton jockey N. Eastwood will ride four members of J. C. Hobbs’s strong team on the first day of the Marlborough Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday. Eastwood’s mounts will be Valaris, Pilot Light, Carmell, and Black Ray. C. McDonald has been engaged to ride Compensate.

W. D. Skelton, who rides for Hobbs’s stable when available, will be riding at Woodville on Saturday, but will be at Blenheim for the second day next Monday. Carmell (G. W. Mein) shaped nicely in a fve-furlong sprint with Pilot Light (G. Baldwin) on the course proper at Riccarton yesterday. Carmell won the gallop by a neck and recorded 52 3-ssec. She is an unraced half-sister to Feleka. She shapes well. Pilot Light won the Marlborough Centennial Cup and the Vavasour Handicap at Blenheim la.t November. He started a fresh campaign on the second day of the C.J.C. meeting, and should be at his best for the Marlborough meeting. Gaytana (G. W. Mein) dashed over half a mile in 50 l-ssec, and did her work attractively. She is highly consistent, but has been ( finding success elusive. Stvlish (G. W. Mein) recorded 54sec for his half mile. His fourth in the Tasman Handicap on his home course last week was probably his best race so far. He finished strongly for that place after being checked close to home. Keep Time (P. J. Kempton) sprinted half a mile along the back in 51sec.

Jack Ashore (J. Leach) ran half a mile easily in 54 l-ssec. C. T. Wilson will ride him in his engagements at Blenheim. Last Link (P. J. Kempton) recorded 53 4-ssec for his half mile.
