SEPTIC TANKS PATROLLED
Adults Warned Off Area
Special staff is now employed by the Christchurch Drainage Board each week-end to patrol the area of the septic tanks at the board’s sewage farm. The area is patrolled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.i i., and outside these hours the area is inspected periodically by the waterman on duty. This was reported to the board last evening by the construction committee. The steps were taken after a report that two boys had run across the mat on the septic tanks, and of the danger to persons venturing on to what might appear a solid surface but was in fact highly dangerous. In the first two weeks of patrols there was nothing to report, said Mr H. F. Page, the chief engineer (operations), but on April 3, fl’ e adults who had gone there to collect tomatoes from the tanks were asked to leave the area.
