ELECTRAS IN AMERICA

All Found To Be Safe WASHINGTON, April 25. The Federal Aviation Agency announced tonight that inspections had been carried out on all Lockheed Electra jet-prop aircraft in domestic service in the United States and all had been found to be safe. The Civil Aeronautics Board, at the same time, disclosed publicly for the first time that it had recommended to the administrator of the F.A.A.. Mr E. R. Quesada, last April 12, that all Electras should be grounded. Mr Quesada did not follow the recommendation. In a statement released tonight by the F.A.A., Mr Quesada announced that operating restrictions (on speed) on the Electra that had been imposed earlier as a result of two fatal, and similar. Electra crashes earlier this year would remain in effect until “a re-evaluation programme” now being conducted had been completed. “Should any of these (testing) activities show the need for modification of the aircraft structure or imposition of any additional limitations, such action will be taken immediately,” Mr Quesada said.
