86 Non-Whites, No Whites (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) JOHANNESBURG, April 14. Eighty-six non-white persons died in the South African racial troubles between March 21 and April 9, according to figures released today. No whites were killed, the South African Information Service said. During the three weeks of widespread African demonstrations and police shootings, 83 nonwhite civilians and three nonwhite police were killed. Two white and 365 non-white civilians were injured and 60 white police and 26 non-white police were Injured. Fire damage in the Cape Peninsula and Western Province was estimated at roughly £lOO,OOO. |
