PAPAROA COAL PURCHASE
Agreement Not Yet Signed?
(New Zealand Press Association) GREYMOUTH, April 12.
It is unlikely that the BannoNew Zealand Government contract for the purchase of 50,000 tons of Paparoa coal a year for use in Japanese steel mills has been signed. This was the indication given by the managing-director of the Banno Trading Company, New Zealand, Ltd. (Mr F. C. Foley, of Wellington) in a telephone interview this morning. “I have nothing further to report,” Mr Foley said. “I can take the matter no further.”
On Friday, however, Mr Foley said that the Government was delaying on the deal, which will provide a definite boost to the flagging West Coast coal industry. He said then that his company, which was registered in February, was ’Jail ready to move” and was waiting for the Government to make its move.
