FIRE GEAR AT LYTTELTON
Board ” Assumes Responsibility
The Christchurch Fire Board last evening decided to accept responsibility for all shore-based fire-fighting equipment on port property in Lyttelton. The board adopted the recommendation of its chief officer (Mr L. R. Osmond) after receiving confirmation that the Lyttelton Harbour Board would contribute £6OO towards fire protection in the year to end on March 31, 1961.
The equipment had been inspected and it was well maintained; in fact, most of it was near-new, said Mr Osmond.
A number of brigade members worked around the wharves and they could have hoses out before the brigade arrived in the event of a fire, he said. **l think it is worth while maintaining those for instant use,” he said.
