Lawn Tennis Eastern Matches For N.Z. Players
(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) (Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON. April H The New Zealand Davis Cup players, Lew Gerrard and Mark Otway, will be accompanied by two other New Zealanders, R. G Clarke and R. N. Hawkes, when they compete during the Easter week-end at the Southport tournament, Lancashire. Clarke and Hawkes arrived in the Rangitoto with B. E. Woolf, J. H. Lockington, C. G. Judge, W Thom and J. R. McDonald, all of whom will take part in a series of tournaments. Woolf and Lockington will be playing at Easter at the Tally-ho Club, Birmingham, and McDonald will compete next week at the Connaught Club. New Zealand will also probably have at least six representatives at the Sutton tournament next week. After that comes the British hard court championship at Bournemouth, where Gerrard will be defending his singles title. Tennis writers who have been watching Gerrard and,Otway in the season’s early tournaments sem to think the New Zealanders will go further in the Davis Cup North American zone than they did in the European zone.
