EXPENDITURE ON ROADS
North Canterbury District State highway estimates totalling £318,720 were approved at a meeting of the No. 13 District Roads Council, at Waikari recently. The proposed expenditure by the National Roads Board includes £127,370 for the Picton-
Bluff State highway, £128,900 for the Waipara-Reefton State highway, £46,550 for the KaikouraCulverden State highway and £15,900 for accommodation depots and similar requirements. The proposed total expenditures on roading programmes for the local authorities, with the local authority’s share and the National Roads Board subsidy and free grant in each case, are:— Amuri: £44,822; £18,729; Cheviot: £30,652; £11,728; £18,105. Waipara: £76,214; £35,136; £41.078. These are for all roads other than State highways.
