“LIVE” GRENADE HANDED IN
Man Calls At Army Office
It is possible that an Italian hand grenade handed in to the Timaru Army office may still be “live.” It has been taken to Burnham for inspection by StaffSergeant H. E. Luskie. ammunition inspection branch, Royal New Zealand Army Ordnance Corps. A man visited the Army office yesterday and exhibited the souvenir—about the size of a 36M grenade—which had been in the possession of a woman.
The souvenir, red in colour, marked “Breda.” and with a leather tag at the lip, appears to be an Italian grenade. It will be identified and disposed of. Staff-Sergeant Luskie said that on a previous occasion a 2in mortar bomb was sent to Burnham from Timaru, and was found to be “live.” He said it was essential that anything of this nature should be brought to the notice of the Army authorities.
