ADVICE TO NEW POLICEMEN
Former Superintendent
Addresses Parade (New Zeaiana Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 12.
"A man is judged by the friends he keeps, and a policeman should be most careful when making friends to make sure the friends he chooses will not ask him to do anything outside his line of duty,” a former superintendent, Mr W. G. Bennett, told members of the thirteenth wing to pass out from the Police School, Trentham. today. The wing has been called the Bennett wing.
“It is your duty to guard the welfare of the public, and laws have been passed to help you in this task,” he told the parade. “Don’t overstep your powers, but be calm and never leave yourself open to bribes. “Policemen must be willing to meet emergencies and be ready to help the blind, crippled, aged, and children. As a police officer you will always be before the public and must be willing and ready to set a good example," said Mr Bennett.
