WOOL SALES ROSTER
More, Smaller Auctions (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 12. Simultaneous sales in the North Island and the South Island will be avoided in the new sales roster, according to the chairman of the Wool Auction Sales Committee (Mr G. A. Duncan). Mr Duncan said today that preliminary discussions on the forms of sales roster that would best provide for the increasing woo) clip had resulted in the approval in principle of smaller and more frequent sales, spread in the first instance over a period approximating the present wool-selling season, and avoiding any simultaneous North and South Island sales To enable the buyers and brokers to effect the necessary reorganisation and staff training, it would be impracticable to introduce such a revised roster of sales before the 1962-63 season at the earliest. Further meetings of the auction sales committee would be held, and there would be opportunity for the grower representatives on the committee to discuss the proposals fully with representatives of farmer organisations before the taking of any decisions.
Mr Duncan added that the Wool Auction Sales Committee was a statutory body, responsible for settling the wool sales roster. The committee consisted of representatives of the Wool Buyer*’ Association, Wool Brokers’ Association, Wool Board and Wool Commission. In any discussions about the sales roster, representatives of the Overseas Shipowners’ Committee attended and advised the committee regarding shipping coverage for the sales.
