Young League Club
The Shirley Rugby League Club has increased in strength this season and expects to enter 13 schoolboy teams in the various grades, with one team in every section from the under 17 grade down. Last year the club had a successful season with wins in the seven, nine and 11 years schoolboy championships and was runnerup in the senior schoolboys’ grade, the under 10, 12 and 14 grades. A senior schoolboy player, P. Turnbull, played for the South Island at the schoolboys’ tournament at Auckland. A valuable acquisition to the club this year is J. Allison, a former senior player from the Hunslet Club, England. Allison was coach.
