Bowls OVERSEAS TOURS

Information On Costs Information on the costa of tours to Britain and Australia was received from the New Zealand Bowling Association at a meeting of the Christchurch centre last evening. The association said the cost for the 15 weeks’ tour of Britain would be from £833 10s to £lOl2, depending on the accommodation on the ships. The journey there would be by way of Suez with the return through Panama. The tour to Australia from March 13 to April 33, 1961, would cost approximately £275. Members of this party would travel by air. Bowlers wishing to go on either tour were requested to communicate with the secretary of the New Zealand Bowling Association. A letter was received from Mr E. Johnson Informing delegates of a bowling green survey service. This service was usually carried out at the close of the season before the topdressing was done. The survey readings were to within 3/16 inch. Plans could also be supplied. The cost to the clubs was £4, and with a plan, £5. The centre received the letter for Information only and delegates were told they could report the service to their clubs. The president (Mr Turner Smith) said that as there was no necessity for an election for the officers of the New Zealand Bowling Association, Mr W. R. Featherston would be the senior vice-president. Mr Featherston reported that members of the British touring party would leave London on November 18 and would arrive at Wellington on December 33. Members of the party would be the guests of the Christchurch cents* from January 27 to 28 inclusive. A letter from the Shirley club requested that the meta be of a regular size throughout New Zealand. It was resolved that the centre submit a recommendation to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Bowling Association regarding alterations to the rules on the uniformity and colour of mats.
