WOOL SALE AT WELLINGTON

Crossbreds Finn On Napier (New Zealand Press Association)WELLINGTON, April 11. . Compared with the second day of the Napier sale, prices for fine crossbreds at the Wellington wool sale today were in the sellers’ favour, with medium to strong crossbreds very flrm, according to the official report. There was a keen demand for good style wools which were fully firm on recent rates. Lambs' wool was erratic, but prices generally were inclined to be in buyers’ favour. Skirtings were slightly easier. The total catalogue was 33,317 bales, virtually all in crossbred qualities, and drawn mostly from the lower districts of the North Island. The tone of the sale was steady throughout, and there was an excellent clearance of this large offering. There were occasional passings, but they were negligible, and at no stage was the Wool Commission called upon to support the market. . Ewes Predominate The offering represented a typical April selection for wool, and on the whole it opened up in satisfactory condition. Ewe wool, mostly in the 44-48 s range, predominated, and much of it showed up well Some tenderness, cott and discolouration were apparent, but generally the fleece wool was well grown, and this section of the offering contained some nicely presented lots for which there was a keen demand. There was a sprinkling of hogget wools, and these met a ready market. Considerable interest was centred in the large weight of lambs’ wool offered. Both in variety and condition there was a typical wide range of lambs and this was reflected in the prices that were paid. Clips from the coastal areas opened up in good bright condition for the most part, but in other lines there was a good deal of dustiness and more bidi-bidi than usual, and the wool was inclined to be a little on the thin side and mixed in length. There was a good showing of skirtings, with a fair amount of water staiin in evidence and these sold readily at steady rates. The demand throughout the sale was well spread from the fully representative bench of buyers. The Continent was active throughout, but Bradford was not quite so prominent. American interests sought the coarser wools and local mills were interested in lambs’ wool. Range of Prices
