Altered Exchange Rates
The £ now buys 2} cents more Canadian currency than it did a week ago. This gain was much the biggest change recorded in any week thia year. Other currencies also weakened in relation to sterling last week, reflecting favourable overseas reaction to the United Kingdom Budget. Altered telegraphic transfer exchange rates, as advised yesterday by the Bank of New South Wales, are as follows: New Zealand on— New York: buying, 2.8040 dollars to £N.Z. 4 (compared with 2.8032 dollars on April 4); selling, 2.7741 dollars (2.7714). Montreal: 2.7046 dollars (2.8787); 2.8806 dollars (22440). Austria: 7323 schillings (73.12); 71.75 schillings (7124). Belgium: 143.09 francs (14123); 137.50 francs (137.40). Denmark: 10.30 kroner (1926); 18.01 kroner (1820). France: 1328 francs (1327); 1320 francs (13.40). Italy: 1747 lire (1748); 1712 lire (1710). Netherlands: 10.68 guilders (10.67); 10.42 guilders (same). Norway: 30.24 kroner (same); 19.58 kroner (19.57). Switzerland: 12.30 francs (same): 11.96 francs (11.95). Western Germany: 11.73 DM (11.72): 11.48 DM (11.47).
