Bid To Outstrip Britain

Fulfilment of Communist China’s 1980 economic plan and Budget will make it possible for the country to catch up and outstrip Britain in the output of major industrial products in less than 10 yean, the National People’s Congress said in a resolution approving the plans today. The resolution, issued at the closing of the current session, called on the nation to fulfil two to three yean ahead of schedule the 12-yeer agricultural development programme due to end in 1987. The economic plan and Budget, submitted 12 days ago, announced the introduction in towns of
people's communes, the new basic social units for collective living set up in country districts in 1958. More than 2000 Parliamentary deputies and observers, attended today’s closing session. The resolution was adopted unanimously by a show of hands. The resolution said it was "a great victory*' that China's national economy had made a continued big leap forward in 1909 following that of the previous year and husd fulfilled the major targets of the second five-year plan three years ahead of schedule.
