CRICKET TEAM MANAGER
“No Objection To Non-Whites”
(Rec. 10 p.m.)
LONDON, April 11.
Mr Dudley Nourse, manager of the South African cricket team which is to tour Britain, said in Durban yesterday that personally he would have been quite happy to manage a South African team which contained non-whites, had such been chosen. “But I don’t want to talk politics now or at any stage,” he added. “As far as we are concerned there are no politics in cricket, and we hope to play cricket in Britain this summer in true South African spirit.”
According to the London “Daily Telegraph,” he added: “We don’t expeqt any trouble and if there is any we certainly hope it will not affect us.
“Our fellows are happy about the team and they are happy about the prospect of the tour.”
Mr Nourse said the cricketers* families were not worried about possible demonstrations. “We feel sure the board will then make known to us its views on the whole matter and what should be said or not said by the team on arrival in London,” he said.
