FRACAS AT PRISON
Three Warders Injured (New Zealand Press Association) m AUCKLAND, April 11.’ Two Auckland prison officers are off duty today after being injured in a brief fracas at the Auckland Prison shortly after 430 pm. yesterday. A third officer involved' was due to come on duty at noon. The cause of the disturbance, which involved the three officers and six prisoners, is not known. Detectives are investigating the incident today, and it is believed that charges will be laid. The chief prison officer (Mr A. L. Burgess) said today that he was on duty in his office when he heard a “strange noise" outside but within the building. “I went out of the office and saw a prison officer holding his head,” said Mr Burgess. “There were two other officers and five or six prisoners milling about.” Mr Burgess said he told them to “break it up." “The incident was over in the matter of a minute or two, and the prisoners were given their tea and locked up.".
