Arthur Benjamin Dies In London
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) • Rec. 10 pxn.) LONDON, April 10. The Australian-born composer. Arthur Benjamin, who won a world-wide reputation as a pianist, conductor and composer, died early today in the Middlesex Hospital, London. He was 67. He was admitted three weeks ago with jaundice and underwent an operation on Wednesday. Mr Benjamin became ill in Ceylon while on a world tour which was to have ended in San Francisco on April 2 for the world premiere of his opera “A Tale of Two Cities.” Another of his operas “Prima Donna” was performed in New York recently.
