NEW SEWAGE PURIFICATION WORKS AT BROMLEY.—A recent aerial view, looking north from above Cuthbert’s road, of progress on the Christchurch Drainage Board’s new sewage purification works. Sewage will enter the plant in a structure beyond the operations building (middle background) and next to the two partly-completed sludge digesters. The sewage will then pass progressively over a period of about four hours through the primary and secondary sedimentation tanks (left) and the two circular trickling filters (right). The filters are 175ft in diameter. The operations building houses a wide range of mechanical equipment and provides administrative and laboratory accommodation.
