NEW SHIP FOR ISLANDS RUN
Moana Roa To Be Launched Soon
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 10.
The vessel to replace the Maui Pomare will be launched next Thursday or Friday in Scotland, said Mr A. C. Dare, Assistant Secretary for the Department of Island Territories, in Auckland today. The ship, the Moana Roa, will be launched by Mrs G. R. Laking, wife of the acting High Commissioner in the United Kingdom. Mr Dare said the future of the 33-year-old Maui Pomare had not yet been decided. The Moana Roa which will be used in the Cook Islands fruit trade, will be of 2750 tons gross and have a speed of 13 knots. She will have accommodation for 40 passengers and 85,000 feet of cargo space. She is expected to leave on her delivery voyage in late September or early October.
