Basketball Today
With a record 204 teams entering fof the opening day of the season in Christchurch today, the Canterbury Basketball Association looks forward to a full winter’s activities. The Mayoress (Mrs G. Manning) will declare the season open at 2.15 p.m. and present trophies to last season’s winners. Today all teams will play In grading matches, which decide the teams to be promoted or relegated. The winner of the senior reserve last year—Teachers’ College—and* the runner-up, Papanui High School, will play off today. The reason for this match is that the college team changes greatly from one season to another, whereas the school team has only two new players. The winner will then go on to play St. Nicholas, the bottom team in the senior competition last season.
