WATERSIDERS SENT TO PRISON
Theft Of Transistor Radios (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 1. Two cargo workers who last week admitted stealing -24 transistor radios from the Samoabound cargo of the Tofua were today sentenced to one month’s imprisonment with a year’s probation to follow.
The accused, Daniel Ruka, aged 33, and Tahuata Te Maha, aged 32. appeared before Mr H. Jenner Wiley, S.M. The Magistrate said they had stolen when they were in effect in positions of trust. They had been waterside workers for a-considerable time and well knew the consequences of their act. They took the radios and later sold them and this was a serious offence. The Court could only impose imprisonment
