Tunku Sir Abdul Rahman, the... Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, or King of Malaya, who died in his sleep early today. He had been ill for some time. He was reported to be suffering from a chest complaint at the end of last year. He became King in September, 1957, after Malaya achieved independence from Britain. The King, who was born in 1895, played an important part in the discussions which preceded the independence of Malaya, presiding over each conference of rulers held to discuse the new Constitution. He should not be confused with Tunku Abdul Rahman, the Prime Minister of Malaya. They were not related. —Kuala Lumpur, April 1.
