Convicts Free Hostages
(N.Z. Press Association-Copyright) NASHVILLE (Tennessee), 1 March 24. Two desperate convicts today released 14 hostages, including three women, whom they had been holding for 24 hours under a threat of “wholesale murder if we don’t get out freedom.” The end qf the ordeal for the hostages followed a series of talks between the convicts, Robert Rivera and Raymond Parra, and prisofi official No one; appeared to be harmed. A man identified as a lawyer carried the convicts’ two pistols, which apparently had been smuggled into the prison; when the taut-nerved group filed out. Several hours before the end Rivera emerged briefly, talked with officials, and went back. Later Farra came Out, talked, and also went back.
